Edward Wormley for Dunbar Oasis Sofa in Navy Blue Velvet
This iconic and very hard to find sofa by Edward Wormley for Dunbar was named the Oasis sofa. It debuted in the 1930s and became known as the Model 5200 sofa in the 1950s. It is supported on a mahogany platform base.
The Oasis sofa has curves in all the right places this makes you feel as though you are on an Oasis and was inspired by the desert landscape. The crescent or biomorphic design features raised, inward-facing ends that function as both armrests and backrests, tapering down into a deep, sweeping center. This continuous curve was envisioned as an inviting "oasis"—a self-contained, relaxing sanctuary that provided a calming and communal seating arrangement for socializing.
This sofa has been reupholstered in a high quality plush cotton velvet by Manuel Canovas.
